The universal caregiver model was developed by Nancy Fraser in her article “After the Family Wage” (1997/2001), in contrast with two other models: the universal breadwinner model and the caregiver parity model. In the universal caregiver model, it should be possible to combine income earning and caregiver work for all people without major problems and stress, which requires the restructuring of social institutions and organizations. The development of sustainable models of living and household forms has continued in various directions (cf. e.g. Addis 2003: 216; Razavi 2007: 27 ff.; Knobloch 2020b).
