Young carers are children and adolescents under the age of 18 who care for close relatives who are ill, disabled, or in need of support for other reasons (cf. Metzing 2007), while young adult carers are young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 (cf. Frech et al. 2019). A subgroup of young adult carers are students who provide care (see Knopf et al. 2022).
