With the concept of the global chain of care, Arlie Russell Hochschild (2000) names the global effects of worrying and providing. Almost always it is women who leave their country of origin to take over care services in other countries and to compensate for care deficits there. But the departure of this person may in turn leave behind a care deficit in their local context, so that care services have to be taken over by relatives or other persons.
