Self-care refers not only to other people, but also to oneself. In a narrower sense, self-care is understood as “the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness” (Saave 2022). In a broader sense, it can also include possibilities of collective self-care in the context of movements and the possibilities of individual self-care in the context of professional activities (cf. Brückner 2012: 11). However, self-care does not only have a positive connotation, but can also be strongly neoliberal in the form of constant self-optimization processes (cf. Rau 2012).
