Care culture is understood as the prevailing culture in a society, community or organization in dealing with the topics of care and caring, i.e. the social attitude towards caring and providing as well as its evolved and future design processes. In this context, the “atrophy of a culture of care” (Becker-Schmidt 2011: 16) is stated, but also the possibility of gender-equitable “development of a culture of care” (ibid., p. 20) is recognized and demanded. The topics are manifold: it is about the promotion of local care culture in communities and municipalities (cf. Hahmann 2022; Schürch/van Holten 2022) as well as about the investigation of care culture within universities (cf. Knopf et al. 2022).
