People migrate to perform care work in a country where care work is paid for and the pay is higher than in their home country for corresponding activities or in their learned profession. Almost always, it is women who work in care facilities or in private households for people who can no longer manage their daily lives without assistance. In the case of live-in arrangements, they also live in the households of the people for whom they care (see also care extractivism).
