The concept of Vorsorgendes Wirtschaften was developed at the beginning of the 1990s by the network of the same name. The aim is to provide a theoretical basis for a socially sustainable economy in theory and to implement and develop it in practice. Three principles are fundamental to Vorsorgendes Wirtschaften: precaution over cure, cooperation over competition, and a focus on what is necessary for a good life over a focus on monetary values (cf. Busch-Lüty et al. 1994; Biesecker et al. 2000; Netzwerk Vorsorgendes Wirtschaften 2013). These principles originate from the home and utility economy, but are also groundbreaking for the market and monetary economy and central to the sustainability and gender equality of any economic system (cf. Jochimsen/Knobloch 1994, 1997; see also caring economy and care economics).
