The term care system refers to the entire institutional, political and social framework to be designed within which paid and unpaid care work is performed and care needs are met. To structure the care services in a care system, the care diamond is helpful. This reveals that care work is performed in four sectors (with the institutions belonging to them), in the public sector (state), in the market sector (companies), in the third sector (non-profit organizations), in the household sector (private households), and also in civil society, with the majority of care work being performed in private households even in modern economic and social systems (cf. Knobloch 2020a: 115). In any care system, the care system and the care system are essential parts.
